50300 The Study of Music (Level 3)

Lesson 1

The Language of Music Seminar shows us that music is a language, it has all the elements of language. If we can understand the language, we can have discerment in the area of music, because nothing can be known of truth apart from language. There are at least 500 specific references in the Bible to music. Does God want us to test things out, or does He become offended when we do?

Lesson 2

Session one focused on the God of Music. This session deals with the Message of Music. If we can understand music, we can control the music that we have in our lives. Also, music is communication. Individual notes are morally neutral. However, once we combine them, they do take on moral quality. Music can bypass our minds & go directly to our emotions. Is beauty in the eye of the beholder, or does it go deeper than that?

Lesson 3

This session of the Language of Music Seminar deals with the Sound of Music, to give us discernment in the area of music. We can control what we like, and we can know what God likes through His Word, as per Ephesians 5:10, proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. We must measure ourselves by God’s standards, not our own.

Lesson 4

Session four is the Gospel of Music. The devil is using music to bring a false gospel into some churches. The words as well as the music is important in what we listen to. The music of a song can make us accept the words even though they are heretical. The New Age movement believes that there is no reality, no right or wrong, & no sin. The New Age movement seeks to render the mind passive so its beliefs can be introduced.

Lesson 5

This session deals with the Effects of Music. The false will keep people from enjoying the genuine, and this is true in music as well. Music affects us in our bodies first, then our minds, then our spirits. It is impossible to disobey God without paying the price.

Lesson 6

The most exciting concept of the study deals with the ultimate purpose of music. The principle of replacement says to replace something you take away from yourself with something better, and this certainly applies to our music. The Principle of Replacement is taught all throughout Scripture and one example is Ephesians 4:22. Whenever God tells us what to do He always tells us how.
