Description: Dr. Charles Wagner teaches 24 dynamic lessons explaining the truths of the book of Hebrews. This study will take you through the entire book and help you to appreciate how Christ, His person and provision as our High Priest, is far better than the Law, the OT priests, and sacrificial system that the Old Testament believers had. Dr. Wagner leads the student to see the purpose of the book is to confirm believers in the faith, to comfort them, and to caution them. He tackles some of the most difficult passages in the NT. Dr. Charles Wagner was a well known Bible teacher, Pastor, and Bible conference speaker. He pastored in Covington, Kentucky for many years and authored several books. He is now with the Lord.

There are 24 lessons in this course.

Lesson 1

Christ is better, that is the key word to Hebrews. Its purpose is to confirm believers in the Faith, as well as comfort and caution them.

Lesson 2

This lesson deals with how Christ is better than the angels. How does Christ have a better name than the angels?

Lesson 3

There are six warning passages in Hebrews and they are all related. Do believers fall away from the Lord all at once?

Lesson 4

Jesus is the Captain, or Trailblazer, of our Salvation, through suffering. If He called us brethren, should we call one another brethren as believers?

Lesson 5

The one word that could sum up the Book of Hebrews is Priesthood. Christ’s finished work on the cross bought our salvation, but is He doing anything for us today?

Lesson 6

An important concept in Hebrews is Rest. It is wonderful to rest in the finished work of Christ for us. Is there such a thing as resting in a day-by-day walk with God as a believer?

Lesson 7

The entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and it is living. God has not spoken beyond His Word, there are no additional books. It is a seed, a sword, and a rock, among other things in our lives. Jesus, the living Word of God is our priest, and the longest section of Hebrews deals with the priesthood of Christ.

Lesson 8

The Hebrews had become dull of hearing, meaning they had lost interest in the things of God. Learning the Word of God will take work, but should be a labor of love for the believer.

Lesson 9

The whole idea to the Book of Hebrews is to not go back to the old ways and life. Neither Law nor sacrifices could make us perfect, only Christ. We are anchored to Him and are secure as He.

Lesson 10

Old Testament priests retired and then died, but Christ our Great High Priest continues forever. What is the difference between the life of Christ and His death as concerning our salvation?

Lesson 11

A covenant is a contract between two parties. A covenant must be clear, and covenants usually are related to Israel. Did God give the New Covenant to the church or to Israel, and how is the church related to it?

Lesson 12

The Epistle to the Hebrews is unique in that the Hebrews are told they need to break with the past. Everything in the Tabernacle is representative of Jesus Christ our Tabernacle. When Christ died, He set things right. He was the reality from the pattern.

Lesson 13

The Old Testament sacrifices were only shadows that pointed to the coming reality of Christ who actually takes away our sins. These sacrifices that were given over and over only reminded the people of the price of sin. Also, worship today is not involved in the things that we see in our churches but in Christ.

Lesson 14

We need to remember the past just enough to learn from it, but not to live in it. These Hebrews were being persecuted and needed to remember their conversion to Christ. Even greater, God can bring us closer to Himself through suffering. What was it that gave Christ joy as He endured the cross?

Lesson 15

As we go into Hebrews 11, we see that what we believe in is more important than the quality of our faith. Cain rejected God’s Word and Abel had faith in His Word and God accepted Abel’s faith. Salvation is through faith in Christ plus nothing.

Lesson 16

In this lesson, Dr. Wagner speaks about the Hall of Faith in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews. No matter how many good qualities we may have, without faith, the rest are discounted.

Lesson 17

This lesson continues looking at the eleventh chapter of Hebrews and deals with Abraham and Sarah’s faith and sometimes the lack thereof. Is the most important thing the strength or the object of our faith?

Lesson 18

Dr. Wagner points out that there are three wise men in this lesson, these being Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Believers are often called on to suffer, and this is a precious privilege given by God.

Lesson 19

Continuing with chapter 11 of Hebrews, Dr. Wagner shows that what is pleasing to God concerning believers and their their faith in God. Can we be pleasing to God while living according to the ways of the world?

Lesson 20

Dealing with chapter 12 of Hebrews, we see that we are surrounded by witnesses as we run the Christian race. Who are these witnesses? Find out in this lesson.

Lesson 21

Continuing with Hebrews 12, we see the teaching concerning God’s chastening of the believer. Is chastening punishment for sin? The answer to this question and more in this lesson.

Lesson 22

In this interesting study concerning Hebrews 12 we see a study of some mountains in Scripture and what they represent in our lives. For example, what does Mt. Zion refer to in our lives as believers?

Lesson 23

Beginning in the final chapter of Hebrews, we see what the offerings and altars of the Old Testament were about and what they refer to in our lives today. Can believers offer any sacrifice to God today?

Lesson 24

In this final study in Hebrews, we have come to the last chapter & the last paragraph of the Epistle. We see how the believer’s conscience is affected by our salvation and how it works in our life. Should we let our conscience be our guide?
