33400 The Gospel of Luke II (Level 3)

Lesson 1

No man is a believer in Christ until he receives the Holy Spirit. A man must have eyes and light to see, and the light is the Spirit of God. If our conscience does not condemn us, is that final proof that we are right?

Lesson 2

This lesson comprises the study of Luke 12:22-53. After the interruption by a man in the crowd concerning his inheritance, our Lord resumes the teaching of His disciples. Jesus said to be not anxious, because of the value of life. Should we sow and reap and have barns if we’re able, or will God take care of us anyway? The supreme passion of all our days in all our ways is to be a passion for the Kingdom of God.

Lesson 3

We are in chapter 13, verses 10-31 in this study, following our Lord in the last 6 months of His earthly ministry. It seems the man or woman in greatest need is the one Jesus is after. Christ’s ministry was one that was constantly winning men by His attractiveness, and winnowing His crowds.

Lesson 4

Beginning in chapter 14, we begin a story of the last Sabbath day in the ministry of Jesus that covers this and the next few chapters. Our Lord was constantly trampling underfoot the conventions of men and violating the false sanctions they had built around the Sabbath. Jesus came into the world principally for construction, but in the process of construction, He had to do destructive work.

Lesson 5

In Luke 15 we have focused the great fact for which the Bible stands as well as the great truths revealed through the process of the literature. When we look at the shepherd we see suffering, we see seeking when we look at the woman and singing when we look at the father in this threefold parable of Jesus. If God masters a man, does the man abandon his money?

Lesson 6

In Luke 16, we see the Pharisees scoffing and interrupting Jesus. The Pharisees were lovers of money and the master passion of their lives was the love of material possession, and this is what Jesus was teaching about as they interrupted Him. Jesus also teaches on stumbling-blocks. If a man put a stumbling-block in my way, my first duty is to rebuke him. Must we forgive a man even if he persists in the sin that we have rebuked?

Lesson 7

This lesson deals mainly with Luke 17, verses 11 through 37. In the account of the 10 lepers, we are reminded that Jews had no dealings with Samaritans, and Samaritans also had no dealings with Jews. We see them here united by common misery. How can trouble and misery ever be counted as good things?

Lesson 8

This lesson deals with the final verses of chapter 18 and goes well into chapter 19 of Luke. With particularity of detail Jesus told His disciples all that was about to happen. Was delivering Jesus to the Gentiles Israel’s ultimate sin?

Lesson 9

We come to Jesus’ arrival into the city of Jerusalem in Luke 19. Concerning the commonly called Triumphal Entry, neither Matthew, Mark, Luke nor John gives us a complete account. He actually made 3 entries into Jerusalem: The first entry was Kingly, the second was as Priest and the third as Prophet.

Lesson 10

This study covers Luke 20 verses 19 through 40. There was both a political and religious attack on our Lord, hoping to find something in Jesus’ speaking to deliver Him to Rome. Of course, they could find none. On His way to the cross, the Kingliness and Majesty of Christ were shining brightly.

Lesson 11

Luke 21:5-38 begins the study in this lesson. This section ends Luke’s account of the third day in our Lord’s final week in Jerusalem. When Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple, the disciples believed Him, and this is a wonderful evidence of the confidence of these men in their Master. Jesus’ word to His people was threefold: take heed, watch, pray.
