40100 Esther (Level 3)

Lesson 1

God is as much at work today in the life of a believer as He was in the lives of Bible characters like Esther then. An interesting thing about the Book of Esther is it is the only book in the Bible where God’s name is never mentioned. Yet God is the unseen Director behind the events of life. Does anything ever occur in the world by chance?

Lesson 2

There is an underlying demand for self-satisfaction in the world, and we see this same thing in the story of Esther. The king, Ahasueras, threw a banquet that lasted half a year to display his glory. Does God ever use the selfish and sinful decisions of human beings to advance His purpose?

Lesson 3

Mordecai the Jew, a major character in the story of Esther, was named for a Babylonian god. Mordecai’s father obviously was not walking with God. We see through the story of Esther that God works His Will through both faithful people and unfaithful people.

Lesson 4

Though Esther was used greatly of God, she was not always a godly and virtuous woman. The providence of God is seen throughout the book of Esther and He is the one to be trusted.

Lesson 5

Chapter four describes a defining moment in the life of Esther. The day that the Jewish people realized they would be exterminated as a people was the first day of Passover. God is about to reveal again that He rules over the affairs of people and nations.

Lesson 6

In this lesson, we see that Esther has chosen to act regardless of her fear by going into the King without permission. Esther actually manuvers the king into committing himself to do her wishes in advance. In this lesson, we note that even when circumstances are out of control, God is still in control.

Lesson 7

God sometimes uses reversals in our lives to bless and help us. Does God wait until the last second to help us? Is God still sovereign even when He is silent?

Lesson 8

The story line of Esther is to reveal the absolute sovereignty and providence of God. Just as the edict of Haman was still in effect even after his death, so are we under the edict of spiritual death until we come to Christ.
